When you go to a new doctor or hospital, you are given information about your rights and responsibilities as a patient? When was the last time you read this document? We will review some of the key features of advance directives, as well as explain ways that you can assure that your health care wishes will be followed. Rabbi Stander is the Community Aging Specialist for HHCI CARES (Caregiving, Aging, Resilience, Ethics, and Spirituality). Prior to joining HHCI in August 2021, he served as a pulpit rabbi, chaplain in both hospital and hospice settings, and ombudsman for long-term care facilities in Harris County. He holds a Master’s in Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
